After the initial competition, a new preliminary project was developed in 2008 on the basis of a reduced space allocation plan, in which the existing hall was dispensed with. The new multi-purpose hall is an event venue and gymnasium combined. It enables optimal synergies between school use and club use, while being as compact as possible.
However, this means that the hall needs different room atmospheres on demand, so to speak. This effect is made possible by a surrounding open gallery that overlooks the hall on the upper floor. Various curtain positions enable different spatial settings.
At the same time, the curtain hides the closed outer walls, which span the hall area as storey-high edge supports and transfer the roof loads to the cores positioned at the ends. The roof itself is a pre-stressed slab made of in-situ concrete, containing Cobiax spheres for load reduction.
